LIFE HAS TO GO ON AFTER KAHN

LIFE HAS TO GO ON AFTER KAHN
The first thing I learnt about German football is that there is a man called Franz Beckenbaeur. And that is all any body needs to know about German football. Getting his opinion about any controversy is equivalent to taking an opinion poll. Only this is much faster. Long before German coach Jurgen Klinsmann told the world who of the two (Kahn and Lehmann) is the better goalkeeper, Beckenbauer expressed his opinion. After a friendly match loss, he was quoted saying, ‘What hurts is loosing because the better goalkeeper is not being played.’ Lehmann , not Kahn had played that match. So after that Kahn was officially the better keeper. Klinsmann did not better the situation by dismissing goal keeping coach and Kahn’s friend later on. This was seen by many as being anti Bayern Munich, anti Beckenbauer and so anti German. Anti Klinsmann fever began in earnest.
Kahn himself is not new to controversies. From throwing WWE tackles at fellow Germany players in Bundesliga matches to spending a night in a club when his wife was in labour. But nothing including his alcohol problems can reduce his popularity in Germany. Klinsman’s announcement that he was going to stick with Lehmnan for world cup should never have been a surprise to any one. For any objective person, Kahn is no longer the man for the job. But in the words of Klinsmann, "emotionality comes before objectivity these days." For most Germans what hurts almost as much losing is leaving Kahn out.
